Back to the Spot

Back to the Spot is an educational component of the Liberation Route Limburg. This project is an initiative of Hart van Limburg (then VVV Midden-Limburg) from 2015. In Back to the Spot, primary school children go in search of traces and stories that the Second World War left behind in their own surroundings. Together with older people, the children of the time, they return to the place where life changed forever during the Second World War.

Back to the Spot - Part 1

In this episode: Twan van Els Twan was only a child when the war broke out. The war that felt like a great adventure in the beginning, ended in hell. (Episode in cooperation with: Basisschool Petrus Banden Venray)

Back to the Spot - Part 2

In this episode: Mirjam Honig Mirjam fled as a Jewish girl from Germany to Limburg and went into hiding during the war in order to stay out of the hands of the German occupier. (episode in cooperation with: Basisschool De Schans Blerick)

Back to the Spot - Part 3

In this episode: Sjra Theunissen As a child Sjra experienced the horrors of the war. The fear that something would happen to his father made him grow up quickly. (episode in cooperation with: Basisschool St. Martinus Beegden)

Back to the Spot - Part 4

In this episode: Gertie Gerritsen-Backus Gertie fell in love with a German boy, Franz. Despite the fact that Franz refused to fight, he was arrested after the war and treated as a criminal. (Episode in cooperation with: Basisschool De Kring Genhout)

Back to the Spot - Part 5

In this episode: Wiel Creemers, who grew up in war and carries the horrors of it with him all his life. This is the fifth and final episode of Back to the Places.
