The German town Wassenberg

The town of Wassenberg

The town of Wassenberg – the gateway to the national park region of Meinweg – is situated on the Dutch border, in the triangle formed by Aachen, Roermond and Düsseldorf. From North- and Central Limburg, you can cross the border into Wassenberg from the municipality of Roerdalen.

Explore the sights and tastes of the region

The town of Wassenberg in the Lower Rhine region has had a chequered history. On a walk through the historic centre you can admire old buildings such as the castle, town walls and many others. Stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy a tasty glass of Rurtaler (local beer brewed in Wassenberg) or one of the other local specialities. Wassenberg’s gastronomic reputation extends far beyond the town’s borders.

Routes for walking, cycling and driving

Do you fancy heading out for a bike ride with a difference? Wassenberg is great for cyclists. You can use the network of numbered intersections to map out your own cycle routes.

Do you love walking in the great outdoors? The region has countless marked paths and premium signposted walks that guide you along the way.

Central Limburg’s tourist organisation (Visit Noord- en Midden-Limburg) has put together a number of routes for cars and motorbikes. One of those routes passes through Wassenberg.

If you prefer to spend your day doing something else instead of walking or cycling, there are plenty of other options such as Nordic walking, horse riding, golf or simply chilling out with a spa treatment.

Cool for kids

Splashing around in the Effelder Waldsee lake, adventure playgrounds, a day on the farm or paddling around on the River Roer. There’s plenty to do for kids in and around Wassenberg.

Plenty to do

Wassenberg organises lots of events, especially in the summer months. You can visit the Schlemmermarkt food festival, the mediaeval Spectaculum, the art and culture day or the asparagus festival in Effeld. And in the winter there are various traditional advent markets and Christmas markets.

In Wassenberg you’ll find all the ingredients for a great day out or a longer break!
