These bunkers, or casemates, were part of the Peel Framework and have been designated as National Monuments. From this piece of war history you have a beautiful view over National Park De Groote Peel with hundreds of species of birds. Climb the Belfry and experience a literal highlight of the area!
Casemates
Some of the casemates can also be viewed from the inside. Here you can see how the soldiers lived and how they took cover inside. These casemates are still well preserved, but they were also hit hard in the war. You will learn about the impressive history of these ruins here.
The Peeltroef
Next to the watchtower you will find the Peeltroeven. These are important and beautiful places in the national park. Each trump card has its own story and together they tell you about the history of De Peel.
Evacuation path
Climbing the watchtower can be combined with a walk through the nature reserve De Groote Peel. But walking here is also educational. For example, walk the historical route from Meijel to Heusden. This was an escape route in the Second World War. Along the way, you will learn everything about this route.
