The monks are Cistercians of strict observance. They lead a sober life of silence and prayer. They obtain their income mainly from a mixed farm and the care of Livar monastery pigs, among other things.
During this tour the guide will tell you about the way of life of the brothers, the genesis of the abbey, the landscape and the reclamation of the (swamp) area. You will visit the farm, the "outside run" of the Livar pigs and take a look at the escape bunker. The German occupiers built this bunker during World War II in 1942, when the monks were expelled. Also on the grounds is a monument honoring the Allied aircrews who died here during World War II.
