Vector of Memory

The monument at the former Church of Peace in Venray was erected in memory of all soldiers (American, Canadian, German, English and Dutch) and civilians who died during the occupation years due to acts of war. For peace and freedom to prevail, forgiveness and reconciliation are needed.

The Church of Peace was built on the initiative of chaplain W. Geerits in 1959. The church was to be both a monument to peace (in a region that had been badly hit by World War II) and also a function as a parish church. Funds were raised worldwide. With the creation of the columns in the forecourt, the church was completed.
