Vector of Memory

This Vector of Memory is located at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Venray.

Liberation of Venray

Venray was liberated by Commonwealth troops on 17 October 1944 after particularly heavy and bloody fighting. The graves in this military cemetery of honour date from October 1944 to March 1945. The war cemetery was inaugurated on 30 December 1946.

War cemetery

This cemetery rests 692 Commonwealth servicemen who died in World War II. The soldiers were not only from the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, but also from Poland. Thirty of them were never identified. Also located here is the grave of a British war correspondent. The vast majority of soldiers buried here died during liberation operations in North and Central Limburg. They include many victims of the fighting near Overloon and Venray. Crew members of allied aircraft that had crashed in the region were also given their last resting place here.
