The Watchman over the Peel

In early October 1944, fierce fighting raged around the villages of Overloon and Venray. The Germans have taken the church tower of Venray, the Keeper of the Peel, as a lookout post. They see the British advancing slowly with their tanks and respond with relentless shelling from Nebelwerfer and artillery units. Despite this shelling, the soggy ground and vast minefields, the British push on.
