Entrenchments from the year 1637 which was used in the past to protect inhabitants.

In the past, entrenchments were defensive works that protected the inhabitants from looting troops. The entrenchment of Laar anno 1637, was donated in 1942 by the villagers to the parish to build a church. The entrenchment was completely renovated in 2009 on the basis of historical research. The entrenchment of Laar is, together with the Boshoverschans, the most recognizable farmer's entrenchment in the Netherlands. In this way, the 'island' has been given a contemporary interpretation, with references to history and space for contemporary use. After the redevelopment it will be a place for the entire village community and a meeting place for village and neighbourhood parties.
