In the town centre you find the late Romanesque/early Gothic Munsterkerk and the late Gothic St. Christopher's cathedral. The regional Maas style can be found in a building called the 'Steenen Trappen'(stone steps) and in the 'Prinsenhof' (princes' court).
From the 19th century onwards, several neo-styles succeeded eachother. In response to this, from 1880 onwards, a totally new art movement developed, called 'Jugendstil' (Art Nouveau Style). Roermond still has several very beautiful Jugendstil buildings.
In the 20th century, numerous architectural styles followed, including Art Deco and the Amsterdam School.
