Guided Tours

Guided tour of the Streekmuseum Stevensweert/ Ohe en Laak. The VVV tour guide elaborates on the turbulent history of the old fortified town of Stevensweert and the former manor Ohe en Laak.

The museum is located in the former town hall of Stevensweert. The building is a national monument, designed by the famous Roermond architect Pierre Cuypers. He also designed the Central Station and Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Stevensweert en Ohé en Laak are surrounded by water. They are situated on an island in the river Meuse. This made the area easy to defend and during the Eighty Years War', the Spaniards built various fortifications on it.
The guide explains the model of the Spanish fortress and the model of a medieval castle in the centre of Stevensweert. The guide brings the history of Walburg castle back to life. At the extensive collection of dredging finds, the guide also reflects on the recent history of this 'island in the Maas'.
