The Maasplassen is the largest continuous water sports area in the Netherlands.
The Maasplassen is an extensive, continuous network of large and small lakes, created by gravel quarries. Few people know that the surface area of the Maasplassen of over 3,000 hectares makes it the largest continuous water sports area in the Netherlands.
Mecca for all water sports enthusiasts
The diversity of the Maasplassen area makes it an absolute mecca for all water sports enthusiasts. You can swim there, surf, sail, dive, row, canoe or choose a faster or more extreme water sport such as water skiing, flyboarding and wakeboarding. In the summer months the beautiful beaches and hip beach clubs are the place to be. Boat owners can moor in one of the large or smaller marinas, all of which have modern facilities. There are plenty of excellent fishing spots as long as you have a fishing permit such as the Dutch VISpas or a weekly permit.
Round trip across the Maasplassen
To get a good impression of the size and beauty of the River Meuse and the Maasplassen, we recommend stepping on board one of the round trip boats.
Sail using your own boat or rent a yacht, sailing boat or sloop.
The Maasplassen are perfect for sailing around in a boat. Sail from one lake to another through the pretty waterways. You can use your own boat of course. But if you don’t own a sloop, motor boat or sailing boat, renting one could be an option, possibly in combination with a short training course in sailing.
