Limburg has many surprising pearls and beautiful natural areas. The five must-see attractions in the heart of Limburg are what we call the Big Five of Limburg. These areas are beautiful in every season. You don't need filters to take breathtaking pictures here. Go on safari in your own country and discover the Big Five of Limburg! 

1. GrensPark Kempen~Broek

We start this list off with GrensPark Kempen~Broek. This is a vast, easily accessible area on the border of Dutch and Belgian Limburg, near Weert. Here you can enjoy the open space and the silence. The area consists of forests, marshes, hay meadows and stream valleys.

2. Rivierpark Maasvallei

At number 2 is RivierPark Maasvallei. This area stretches along Limburg's Maas and consists of an extensive network of river arms, embankments, stream channels, gravel ponds, trails and floodplains. About 630 hectares of this landscape has been set up as nature reserves.

3. National Park The Meinweg

The Meinweg has an area of about 1,800 ha. In the Meinweg area, forests, heathland, fens and stream valleys provide a varied landscape. This is the only area in Limburg where the adder can be found.

4. National Park the Groote Peel

De Groote Peel is the smallest National Park in the Netherlands, but it's not less special because of that. The park is best known for its visible history of peat extraction. In the breeding season, over ninety bird species can be found in de Groote Peel.

5. Nature Reserve the Leudal

Last but not least in Limburg's Big Five: Nature Reserve the Leudal. This nature reserve covers 900 ha, much of which (500 ha) is managed as a reserve by Staatsbosbeheer. The nature reserve is a very popular hiking area and consists of art-looking stream valleys.

On this cycle tour, you will go on safari in the Limburg Big Five: five magnificent nature reserves in the heart of Limburg. Terrace landscapes, raised bog areas, old Maasarms, metre-high sand dunes and beautiful stream valleys. Each area has its own unique characteristics and some even cross the border.
